Disassembly of 3.0 expansion dock, PD to HDMI conversion chip Bridgestone PS176HDMQFN48GTR2-B0 schematic diagram reference [Copy link]

I recently bought a HUB on Taobao. The merchant showed it as a HUB3.0 expansion dock. After testing, I found that it could not measure 3.0 data. After disassembling it, I was able to reveal its true appearance.

The shell shows a C port, a USB3.0 expansion port, a USB2.0 expansion port and an HDMI port.

The internal HUB chip is Tang Ming's FE8.1.HUB2.0 chip, so it cannot get HUB3.0 data. The merchant is a bit unscrupulous, but fortunately the price is relatively affordable and I didn't waste money and energy.

However, I noticed one thing about the HDMI port. The PS175 chip is still not very common, but the PS175 pin to pin chip PS176 chip is still more commonly used in the DP to HDMI conversion market. I specifically checked the specific data of PS176.

The PS176 is a DisplayPort (DP) to HDMI 2.0 video interface converter for cable adapters, TV receivers, monitors and other applications that require video protocol conversion. It will accept any DisplayPort input format including DP 1.1a, DP1.2a, DP1.3 or DP1.4. It can output legacy HDMI and DVI video modes as well as HDMI2.0 formats. HDMI 2 is supported up to the maximum allowed TMDS date rate of 6Gb/s, enabling 4K Ultra HD video to be played at 60 frames per second in 4:4:4 video mode at 24 bits per second.

The PS176 provides an integrated microprocessor that uses an internal SPI ROM for automatic configuration and microcode. The SPI ROM can be updated in real time through the display port auxiliary channel or the device I2C input device. System control can be input through the I2C slave, and the I2C master interface can be used for external EDID and extended functions. Both support HDCO 1.4 and HDCP 2.2 content protection protocols and the necessary HDCP regeneration functions, including HDCP repeater function, and integrate HDCP receiving or sending functions.

PS176 operation diagram

PS176 Key Features:

Integrated DisplayPort receiver and HDMI 2.0 transmitter for video format conversion

Supports display resolutions up to 4096 x 2160 at 60Hz frame rates, 24-bit color and 4:4:4 color sampling, using 4-lane DP 1.2a, DP 1.3, or DP 1.4 inputs at HBR2 (5.4Gbps) data rates

Jitter-eliminating phase-locked loop provides stable HDMI output signal with margin for compatibility

HDCP 1.4 and HDCP 2.3 repeater functions are concentrated on one pin of the chip

Internally capable of converting from 4:4:4/4:2:2 to 4:2:0

Includes on-chip microprocessor with internal SPI ROM

1.2V core power supply and 3.3V I/O power supply

Low power consumption

Internal crystal oscillator, supports external crystal or reference clock

Electrostatic discharge: HBM 7kV

48-pin 6x6mm QFN package, RoHS halogen-free

I have never understood what controls the requested voltage. For example, a charging circuit I designed contains a PD chip. When I use fast charging to charge the battery of this circuit, on what basis does it request the fast charging to output a certain power?   Details Published on 2022-3-4 10:48

The docking station does not have USB 3.0 but is labeled as USB 3.0, which is a fraud to consumers, but the HDMI performance seems to be OK. However, it is better not to label parameters that do not exist, as poor performance and deception are not the same thing.

Because HDMI does not go beyond the HUB chip, it directly connects to the conversion chip such as PS176.  Details Published on 2022-1-5 14:11

There are many 3.0 HUBs that cost more than 10 yuan now, and they are probably similar.

The requested voltage is the bridge function of the protocol IC. The IC is determined based on the voltage requested by the downstream interface and whether the upstream interface supports it. The power is generally a fixed value.  Details Published on 2022-3-10 09:17
