[Raspberry Pi Pico Review] Pico power supply part [Copy link]

I suddenly became curious about the power supply of Pico, so I'll take a closer look today.

The board is powered by USB (+5V) and converted to +3.3V using the switching power chip RT6150.

This chip can both step up and step down the voltage, and the input and output are both 1.8-5.5V (it feels very useful hahaha).

Compared with ASM1117, the package is much smaller (if this chip board is used, it is estimated that it cannot be made so small).

The efficiency is also high. Pin 7 can also control the working mode. When this pin is pulled low, the highest working efficiency can be obtained.

When pulled high, you can get a good ripple effect and can drive heavier loads.

This pin is also connected to GPIO23, so it can be selected as needed.

The board tested the TP4 level and it was low level, so it works in high efficiency mode by default.

The RT6150B switch chip has a switching frequency set at 1MHz, so the external components are much smaller and the quiescent current is only 60μA in energy-saving mode.

AMS1117 is a linear voltage regulator chip with a quiescent current of mA level. It is large in size, has low conversion efficiency, and generates heat when the voltage difference is large. It is not suitable for low-power circuits.

Raspberry Pi Pico has low power consumption requirements, so it will not use chips such as AMS1117

Thanks for sharing~~ I think it's very interesting to read everyone's recent reviews of the Raspberry Pi Pico. Everyone's test points are really unique and worth seeing~~~ This power supply chip looks good and is very suitable for small-sized products.
