Solution to the low success rate of Bluetooth connection of EFR32BG22 series [Copy link]

This post was last edited by skywalker_lee on 2021-3-25 09:33

When using EFR32BG22C112F352GM32 for Bluetooth device development, when the Bluetooth SDK version of Simplicity Studio is 2.13.6 (or earlier), the BLE connection success rate of the mobile phone APP is low. The indoor connection success rate of some models of mobile phones within 5 meters is close to 70%.

The BLE broadcast current waveform was captured through the Energy Profiler of Simplicity Studio. It was found that the chip entered sleep mode early during the third broadcast. This directly led to the failure of the connection after the third broadcast when the chip did not wait for enough time to receive the connection request sent by the mobile phone.

After discovering this problem, we reported it to Siliconlabs. After discussion, we found that it should be a problem with the protocol stack, because EFR32BG22C112F352GM32 has two cores, M33+M0, of which M0 is responsible for RF low-power sleep and wake-up operations. M33 sends the broadcast command to M0, but M0 does not complete the wait, so M33 forces M0 to sleep. There are some problems with the synchronization of the two cores. After confirming the problem, we updated the modified protocol stack, and the problem was solved.

According to feedback from the original manufacturer, I am the first engineer in China to use EFR32BG22 on a large scale in products. The original manufacturer also gave me high praise for reporting new problems and helping them to rectify them. Proud

Large-scale use sounds very arrogant, haha, I look forward to the OP sharing more exploration experiences.

How does this chip work?

I think it's pretty good, at least it's more mature than some small domestic manufacturers. I don't worship foreign products, but some small domestic manufacturers' BLE can only be used in children's toys and cannot withstand in-depth scrutiny.  Details Published on 2021-3-29 16:21

How is the price? How is the supply? c8051f is his best product, what a pity.

Today, the Bluetooth products of Cypress, ST, Silabs, NXP, and ON Semiconductor are completely suppressed by Norway and Texas Instruments.

But in terms of price, the latter two are now completely uncompetitive when it comes to mass applications, especially consumer electronics. This is a fatal flaw. We used to use Nordic, but now it is basically the same price as before, and the performance is even better.  Details Published on 2021-3-29 15:57

Norway basically does not advertise, which is amazing. European Stock 103 holds activities in the forum every year, but there is no sound at all.

We used Nordic before, but now it is half the price, and has better power consumption and computing performance.

This problem can be solved, great!

On the other hand, TI and other manufacturers have this problem, which is too low.
