CC2640 Questions and Answers [Copy link]

Q: Does CC2640 support Bluetooth version 4.2 or Mesh Networks ?

The CC2640 / CC2650 / CC1350 with BLE-Stack v2.2.1 and the CC2640R2F with BLE-Stack v3.0.1 support Bluetooth Core Specification Version 4.2, including all new LE features (LE Secure Connections, LE Data Length Extension, LE Privacy 1.2). In addition, all Bluetooth Version 4.1 Core Specification LE features are supported, including multi-master/slave capabilities ("Multi-Role") for connections of up to 8 devices. As with all LE features added after the initial Bluetooth 4.0 specification, support for v4.1 and v4.2 features is optional. The TI BLE-Stack allows you to selectively configure only the features (v4.0, v4.1, and v4.2) that your application requires.

Instructions for using the v4.2 features are provided in the CC2640 BLE Software Developer's Guide (SWRU393).

On November 11, 2015, the Bluetooth SIG announced enhancements to Bluetooth low energy in 2017, including official support for Mesh Networks. TI intends to support the SIG Mesh standard after the SIG adopts the official standard.

Q: Does CC2640 / CC2650 / CC1350 support Bluetooth 5 ?

A: Bluetooth 5 is supported on the CC2640R2F wireless MCU. See the ConnecTIng Wirelessly blog, “The Secret to Moving Fast with Bluetooth 5,” to learn how the new 2 Mbps High Speed Mode is enabled with the CC2640R2F . For more details on Bluetooth 5, see the CC2640R2F section below .

Q: Do you have a GitHub page?

A: Yes! Additional example projects demonstrating advanced BLE capabilities of the CC2640 / CC2640R2F , such as maximum data throughput over BLE and Multi-Role with up to 8 concurrent connections, can be found on the TI SimpleLink GitHub

Q: What debuggers are supported?

answer:

  • XDS100v3 standalone (from third-party manufacturers)
  • XDS110 on supported LaunchPads, such as CC2650 ( LAUNCHXL-CC2650 ) and MSP432 ( MSP-EXP432P401R ) Red Edition LaunchPads. Other LaunchPads may have an XDS110 with an exposed 10-pin JTAG connector for debugging external targets. Refer to the documentation for your LaunchPad. XDS110 supports cJTAG 2-wire configuration
  • XDS200 (from a third-party manufacturer)
  • SmartRF06EB using XDS100v3 (included on board)
  • DevPack debugger ( CC-DEVPACK-DEBUG ) for new SensorTags (see note below about using a custom board)

See the Tools wiki for more details on supported debuggers, including compatible third-party ARM flash programmers for production/factory environments. Note that the XDS100v2 debugger is not supported on the CC26xx.
