    1. Building a capacitive sensor using springs

Capacitive sensing is a robust alternative to traditional mechanical switches. However, there are applications where it is not possible to place a printed circuit board directly under an overlay or to attach the printed circuit board to the device housing. Such applications include household appliances such as stoves, washing machines, refrigerators, microwave ovens, and various automotive electronics such as radios, TV tuners, control panels, and seat occupant detection systems. Metal spring sensors can be used to replace solid conductive sensors, allowing the PCB to be located away from the overlay and providing a reliable sensor connection under operating conditions with strong vibrations or rapid temperature changes. In addition, springs can provide other functions such as backlighting and fusion of mechanical and capacitive buttons.
