I'm currently learning about the external interrupts of stm32 and using a rotary encoder as the interrupt source. However, I only have a 5 volt rated rotary encoder and after encoding I found that it failed. Is this a hardware problem?

First, connect an oscilloscope to check the waveforms and see if there are two signals. Set the IO port to input pull-up. If it is not connected to a microcontroller, a resistor must be connected.

It is best to use the encoder mode of the timer, and do not use external interrupts, which will not respond well.
