Apple's 3-meter Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable made its debut at Apple's 2022 spring conference. The cable is now on sale on the official website for 1,169 yuan.
According to Apple, this cable uses a braided design and supports Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, and USB4 transmission, up to 40Gbps. In addition to data transmission, it can also provide 100W power supply and DP video output (HBR3).
Users can use this cable to connect a Mac with Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports to displays and devices with Thunderbolt (USB-C) and USB ports, such as Studio Display, Pro Display XDR, docks, and hard drives.
Previously, ChargerLAB disassembled this cable and found that the materials used are not bad. The cable is made of 19 twisted coaxial cables, which are then covered with TPE insulating rubber, and a thin layer of aluminum foil is used for metal shielding. The outer surface is a braided surface, which has good dust and water resistance.
Most of the 19 wires are silver-plated and pure copper, with six tinned copper wires for power and two white plastic-wrapped wires for backward compatibility with USB 2.0 transmissions.
The port connector is protected by hard black plastic and brass sleeves. Each connector has 24 gold-plated pins. After disassembling it, Intel's Thunderbolt 4 dedicated chip can also be seen.
This cable is made of solid materials and is why it is sold at such a high price. However, the high price of accessories has always been a point of criticism against the Apple brand.
For ordinary users, there are substitutes for this cable on the market. As for the price of Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable, it is difficult to make a final conclusion. It depends on the user's choice.
