Today, Samsung and vivo jointly held a press conference to announce the launch of the Exynos 1080 chip in China. This is Samsung's first 5nm chip built with EUV FinFET technology. Just like the Exynos 980 chip first appeared on the vivo X30 last year, the upcoming X-series vivo phone may be the first model equipped with the Exynos 1080.
Compared to Samsung's 7nm process, the 5nm processor increases the number of transistors by more than 80%. Compared with the 8nm LPP (Low Power Plus) process, the 5nm Exynos 1080 has a 14% performance improvement and 30% power reduction. Compared with the 7nm DUV, the new chip has a 7% performance improvement and 18% power reduction.
Exynos 1080 is an octa-core chipset with a 1 + 3 + 4 structure. It consists of a Cortex A78 single-core processor with a main frequency of 2.84GHz, a Cortex-A78 triple-core processor with a frequency of 2.6GHz, and a Cortex-A55 quad-core processor with an operating frequency of 2.0GHz.
The SoC includes the Mali-G78 MP10 graphics chip and supports LPDDR4x / LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.
It also has an NSA/SA dual modem for 5G connectivity, and the Exynos 1080 supports sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G bands. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo.
Phones equipped with Exynos 1080 can support WQHD+ resolution screens with a refresh rate of up to 90Hz, or Full HD+ resolution with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz.
The image signal processor (ISP) of Exynos 1080 supports image resolutions of up to 200 million pixels and can receive signals from up to six sensors. And the ISP can receive up to three input signals simultaneously.
