According to foreign media 9to5Mac, it is widely expected that Apple will launch a new MacBook Pro series as early as this summer, with an upgraded Apple Silicon processor, a new design, and more.

Another rumored change is that Apple will ditch the controversial Touch Bar in favor of a traditional function bar, and now analysts at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) have confirmed this.

In a report published this week, DSCC explained that the Touch Bar is currently the third most popular use for OLED displays. But its sources indicate that Apple will "eliminate the Touch Bar" in future MacBook Pros. Apple is also expected to use OLED displays in its iPad lineup in the next few years. The report explains:

The Touch Bar continues to hold the third position with 18% unit share and 1.2% revenue share in Q1 2021. We expect tablets to surpass the Touch Bar when Apple starts shipping the 10.9-inch AMOLED iPad. Additionally, our sources suggest that Apple may remove the Touch Bar in the future.

The reporter learned that the Touch Bar uses an OLED display to replace the traditional function keys and first appeared on the MacBook Pro in 2016. Many other sources, including Kuo Ming-Chi and Bloomberg, have said that Apple plans to remove the Touch Bar when it redesigns the MacBook Pro this summer.
