According to foreign media reports, truck manufacturer Scania and battery manufacturer Northvolt announced on April 18 that the two companies have joined forces to develop an electric vehicle battery with a service life equivalent to the life of a truck.
The two Swedish companies said the lithium-ion batteries in the tests have proven themselves capable of powering the trucks for 1.5 million kilometers, which is the same as the expected service life of Scania trucks.
Scania CEO Christian Levin said in a statement: “The future of heavy transport is electrified, and to enable this transition and continue to deliver on the brand promise to customers, Scania needs to deliver the performance of its electric trucks Excellent battery cells.”

Scania and Northvolt said the new cells are being produced at the Northvolt Ett Gigafactory in northern Sweden. At full series production, the carbon footprint of the batteries is estimated to be about one-third that of industry references.
Northvolt was founded in 2017, and its largest shareholders include Volkswagen Group, Goldman Sachs, BMW and Baillie Gifford. Northvolt has emerged as one of the main challengers to battery industry dominant players such as CATL and LG New Energy .
Northvolt had previously announced it would build its next battery gigafactory in Germany, but said in recent months it was considering whether to delay building a factory in Germany and instead Build a factory in the United States. Northvolt told EU policymakers that U.S. subsidies were worth at least 8 billion euros per factory.
Northvolt CEO Peter Carlsson has previously said that IRA "is shifting investment momentum from Europe to the United States in a large amount." Not only Northvolt, but also battery companies and suppliers in Asia are also considering shifting investment to the United States.
