[November 6, 2024, Munich, Germany] Infineon Technologies AG, a global semiconductor leader in power systems and the Internet of Things, recently released a new product in the EZ-USB™ series, the EZ-USB™ FX20 programmable USB peripheral controller . With this product, developers can create USB devices that meet the higher performance requirements of artificial intelligence (AI), image processing and emerging applications. The EZ-USB™ FX20 peripheral controller provides high-speed connections through USB 20 Gbps and LVDS interfaces, and the total bandwidth is six times higher than the previous generation EZ-USB™ FX3.
EZ-USB™ FX20 and BGA169 package combination
“As USB devices become more and more popular, the market needs USB controllers with greater compatibility and adaptability,” said Ganesh Subramaniam, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Wired Connectivity Solutions Product Line at Infineon Technologies. “As a result, Infineon is continuously improving the functionality and performance of its EZ-USB™ peripheral controllers and continuously introducing new products to this family, providing developers with flexible components to create powerful advanced applications.”
EZ-USB™ FX20 uses a 10 x 10 mm² BGA package and requires only a small PCB space, which not only optimizes the BOM, but is also very suitable for space-constrained applications. The product also supports USB-C direct connection without the need for a high-speed signal multiplexer (MUX), simplifying the design process. The accompanying quick start development kit contains firmware and configuration tools to facilitate the integration of the product. The kit comes with a standard FPGA mezzanine card (FMC) connector that can be easily connected to a field programmable gate array (FPGA) card, as well as an all-in-one programming and debugging accessory card. In addition, this peripheral controller also provides a comprehensive set of software and hardware design application instructions to simplify the development process of high-performance devices for various purposes.
EZ-USB™ FX20 is equipped with two ARM® Cortex®-M4 and M0+ core CPUs, 512 KB flash, 128 KB SRAM, 128 KB ROM, and seven serial communication blocks (SCBs) . It also comes with a cryptographic accelerator and a high-bandwidth data subsystem that allows direct memory access (DMA) data transfers at up to 20 Gbps between LVDS/LVCMOS and USB ports. In addition, an additional 1 MB SRAM for buffering USB data also supports data transfer. Because this peripheral controller integrates USB-C port direction detection and flip multiplexing functions, no external logic is required. If developers need a powerful and adaptable USB controller, EZ-USB™ with these features will be an ideal choice.
Availability
The EZ-USB™ FX20 peripheral controller is available in a 10 x 10 mm² BGA package and will be available in Q1 2025. Development samples are available now.
