See what the battery voltage is, then set the range to a larger range (the closest one that is larger than the battery v number, which is more accurate. For example, if the battery is 2v, set it to 10v - if the closest one is 10v), then connect the positive pole to the positive pole of the battery, and the negative pole to the negative pole of the battery (generally the red test lead is the positive pole and the black one is the negative pole), and that's it.
