TDK Corporation (TSE: 6762) has introduced a new high-performance and highly fault-tolerant InvenSense inertial measurement unit (IMU) series for industrial applications. The new products, IIM-46234 and IIM-46230, include multiple 6-axis sensors, each of which can measure 3D linear acceleration and 3D rotational angular velocity.

With the ability to make precise measurements in harsh environments with large vibrations and temperature variations, the IIM-4623X product series is suitable for a variety of navigation and stability applications, including precision agriculture, construction machinery, aircraft, and industrial robots. For example, construction vehicles can combine IIM-4623X measurements with data from global navigation systems such as GPS to determine precise position, attitude, and real-time motion status in real time. This real-time information is critical to improving the automation, efficiency, and safety of mobile industrial machinery. In addition, the new series also integrates TDK's unique SensorFT™ fault-tolerant function.

“The SensorFT™ feature in the IIM-46234 and IIM-46230 combines multi-IMU hardware design with our proprietary fault detection and recovery software to provide built-in redundancy and early warning capabilities,” said Uday Mudoi, director of industry marketing at InvenSense, a TDK group company. “Systems equipped with the IIM-4623X sensors can provide customers with early warning, enabling preventive maintenance to avoid operational disruptions.”

IIM-46234 and IIM-46230 products have the following features:

High-precision, ultra-low noise sensor enables precise measurements

Factory calibration ensures reliable measurements over the entire temperature range

Microsecond-accurate timestamps are combined with all sensor measurements to enable precise timing of the rest of the system

TDK customers can combine the high-performance industrial IMU family with InvenSense Coursa Drive software to deliver a market-ready inertial navigation system (INS) with minimal development costs and resources. Coursa Drive can provide up to 100 Hz position and orientation data to the AV system in real time to supplement the lower rate position references from GNSS and perception systems. To improve the system's fault tolerance, Coursa Drive can provide decimeter-level position accuracy during short periods when GNSS or perception systems are uncertain or unavailable.

The IIM-46234 and IIM-46230 products are available now to select early access partners and customers.
