Guo Mingqi: Whether Face ID will be used on all iPhones depends on you!
In his report, Kuo Ming-qi pointed out that whether Apple finally decides to adopt Face ID on all iPhones or use both biometric technologies at the same time, or replace Touch ID immediately once there is a feasible under-screen fingerprint recognition technology, the above choices all depend on whether Face ID can be well received by the public.
Guo Mingqi said in his research report:
"Many investors are concerned about whether the iPhone models launched in 2018 will support Touch ID technology. We believe the key factors are as follows: whether the Face ID of iPhone X brings a good user experience to consumers; and whether Apple has solved the technical difficulties of under-screen fingerprint recognition technology."
Guo Mingqi believes that if Apple decides to abandon Touch ID technology on iPhone, then they must develop under-screen fingerprint recognition technology. It is understood that the main technical challenge Apple encounters in this solution is that the 3D Touch module will thicken the entire display panel, thereby reducing the scanning accuracy of the under-screen fingerprint reader.
However, Guo Mingqi believes that it all depends on consumers' attitude towards Face ID. If Face ID can impress consumers, more iPhone models will be equipped with TrueDepth Camera and support Face ID recognition in 2018. At the same time, as a strong competitor of the iOS system, a large number of mobile phone manufacturers in the Android camp will accelerate the development of face recognition technology, which will also greatly stimulate the growth of face recognition related module suppliers.
Guo Mingqi pointed out in the report:
"If consumers are not impressed by Face ID, then Apple will focus on developing under-screen fingerprint recognition technology solutions. Because no matter what happens, Apple will find ways to overcome the above problems."
With the launch of iPhone X, Face ID will be available on time in November this year. As a new biometric technology, many people have a lot of doubts about the privacy, security and functionality of Face ID. However, as Leifeng.com previously reported, Cook said at the new product launch that if the original Touch ID has a one in 50,000 chance of being opened by others, then the probability of Face ID being opened by others may be only one in a million. In other words, security is improved by 20 times. Recently, Apple executive Craig Federighi also vowed in a series of interviews that once consumers actually use Face ID, their previous doubts and suspicions will disappear.
In fact, Guo Mingqi's prediction can also be expressed in a more popular way: As a consumer product company, whether Face ID will appear on all iPhones in the future depends on the actual usage of consumers.
