People who bought Dogecoin can now finally use it to buy movie tickets at AMC theaters.
In fact, AMC, the largest cinema chain in the United States, has always publicly supported cryptocurrencies. CEO Adam Aron recently announced that its APP will now accept Dogecoin (DOGE), SHIB and other cryptocurrencies.
Adam Aron said that if customers in the United States want to pay with cryptocurrencies, they can update the AMC Theatres iOS and Android apps through integration with BitPay.
Dogecoin was accepted by AMC Theaters as early as October 2021, but only via digital gift cards (up to $200 per day).
AMC's plan to accept cryptocurrencies was announced in August last year, but it was not until January 6, 2022 that Adam Aron promised users through social platforms that the company would accept cryptocurrencies such as Dogecoin and SHIB before March.
The company first began accepting cryptocurrency payments in November last year, allowing customers to buy movie tickets online using Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC).
After the announcement, a group of Dogecoin fans gathered on AMC's social media, asking AMC to accept other cryptocurrencies as well. Aron then posted a poll on Twitter asking if they would use Dogecoin to make purchases at AMC, and more than two-thirds of them voted in favor.
According to Aron, crypto payments account for 14% of total online transactions.
In most cases, paying for popcorn and tickets with Dogecoin is simple. Once you’ve added your AMC tickets to your cart and selected BitPay as your payment method, you simply connect your crypto wallet address, where you can send your chosen cryptocurrency.
