Will NB-IoT lead meter reading companies to collectively engage in price wars?
On November 9, Fuzhou held the 2017 (8th) China Internet of Things Conference.
During the conference forum, guest speaker Xing Weihua delivered a keynote speech entitled " NB-IoT Competitive Situation and the Opportunities and Challenges it Brought to Meter Reading Related Companies ".
Speech Outline
With the commercialization of NB-IoT, the competition surrounding NB-IoT has become fierce.
1. The "four meters in one" of State Grid Corporation of China competes with the three major operators for "tap water, gas and heat";
2. The competition among the three major operators, China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom, for power, water, gas and heating supply companies;
3. Competition between NB-IoT represented by Huawei and LoRa technology solutions represented by ZTE;
4. Competition among manufacturers of electricity, water, gas and heat smart meters to choose between wired and wireless technology solutions;
5. With the commercial use of NB-IoT, various types of smart meters that were originally "differentiated" will gradually be standardized and tend towards NB-IoT solutions. In the "mechanical meter + NB" model, there will be no technical differences, and market competition will enter a fierce state. Reduced profits, small profits, no profits, losses, and business bankruptcies will become the new normal, and competition among various instrument units will shift to innovation in measurement technology.
