Xinhua News Agency_China faces a serious shortage of embedded software development talents!
2006-11-10
Xinhuanet, Guangzhou, November 10 (Reporter Cheng Minghui, Guo Yingyu) In the next five years, the talent gap for Linux embedded software development in China will reach 1.2 million, while there are only 3,000 skilled Linux application talents at present. This means that major multinational companies and domestic home appliance giants are facing the challenge of a serious shortage of embedded talents. "Wang Ziqiang, general manager of Xinhua Technology (Nanjing) System Software Co., Ltd., said at the Open Source Software Development Summit Forum held in Guangzhou on the 9th.
From portable MP3s, electronic dictionaries, mobile phones, PDAs, to smart TVs, smart refrigerators, set-top boxes at home, to robots in industrial production and entertainment, all use various microprocessors. The unfamiliar "embedded" technology has actually penetrated into every aspect of people's daily lives. Since embedded systems usually have the characteristics of low power consumption, small size, and high integration, with the emergence of intelligent consumer appliances and cheap microprocessors, embedded systems will form a larger application field in daily life.
Such a wide range of application fields brings huge demand for talents. However, it is understood that there are almost no Linux-related courses in Chinese universities, and there are very few professional training institutions. Embedded software developers based on the Linux platform are even rarer.
A project manager of Guangdong Jinpeng Company told reporters that they originally planned to recruit 10 embedded software development engineers this year, but after layers of examinations, only 3 talents finally met the requirements, and the company's senior management was very anxious about this.
"Similar situations have occurred frequently in recent years. We hope that colleges and universities can offer some advanced courses for the market and cultivate computer science students' knowledge and hands-on skills in hardware. There are too few people who meet the job standards now." The project manager appealed.
Lin Jiansong, head of the training department of the Guangdong Embedded Software Public Technology Center, said: "The domestic talent gap in this area is conservatively estimated to be around 100,000 people per year, but as the only training institution in Guangzhou, we can only output around 20 qualified talents per month. "
The reporter learned that due to the shortage of talents, the salary of Linux embedded software development talents is quite considerable, about 50% higher than other IT industry peers. The average monthly salary of beginner developers can generally reach 5,000 yuan, and the annual salary of those with more than 3 years of experience is more than 100,000 yuan. The annual salary of senior embedded engineers with 10 years of work experience is about 300,000 yuan.
Industry insiders said that there are two types of embedded talents: one is people with hardware-oriented majors such as electronic engineering and communication engineering, who are mainly engaged in hardware design; the other is people with computer majors and software programming, who are mainly engaged in the development of embedded operating systems and application software. At present, the most popular talents in the workplace are software-oriented talents.
Lan Yong, director of the Guangdong Embedded Software Public Technology Center, said that since embedded system development has to face ever-changing products, it often depends on the experience accumulation of developers themselves. Socialized and centralized training is difficult to alleviate the current situation of talent shortage. He pointed out that allowing professionals with basic knowledge of software and hardware to undergo "secondary training" in project practice is an important means for many large companies to cultivate embedded talents at this stage. Hehe, there is a serious shortage, and even small workshops can't make much money.  Details Published on 2006-12-28 12:44
