[Repost] Reliability of DC-DC power modules [Copy link]

Based on my experience with DC-DC AC-DC isolated power modules and the responses of my customers, I would like to express my views on the reliability of power modules. 
Most current analog and digital integrated circuits are very reliable, and most equipment manufacturers use similar components provided by the same suppliers. Therefore, the power system is a place where manufacturers can distinguish their products from competitors. Power designers also know that the reliability of today's high-power density converters varies greatly. This is because their design technical parameters, the ability of components to withstand overload voltage and overload current, and the power consumption are different. It is worth noting
that although high efficiency helps to reduce thermal power consumption, this does not mean that reliability is also improved accordingly. In order to ensure the best performance of the product, the following factors that affect the reliability of the power module must be mastered in the design of the power system:
1. The operating temperature of the power system;
2. The design rules formulated by the DC-DC converter supplier to achieve a safe operating temperature;
3. The performance of the DC-DC components, especially the performance of semiconductor devices;
4. The airflow in the power system and the direction of its flow on the power module;
5. The power module's requirements for input voltage and load surges;
6. The power supply and temperature changes required by the power system.
All of these factors affect the reliability of the power module. One of the most important factors that can be controlled in power system design is the temperature of the power module. As long as it operates under specified conditions, the power module will function safely and reliably with all components operating below its maximum temperature.
